Folklore in the United Kingdom and Ireland tells that blackberries should not be picked after Old Michaelmas Day (11 October) as the devil (or a PĂșca) has made them unfit to eat by stepping, spitting or fouling on them.

Latin name: Rubus Fructicosus

Family: Rosaceae

Folk name: Bramble, Bumblekites, Bounty Thorn, Skaldberry, Blackbutters, Pricklethorn

Habitat: Waste ground, hedgerow, woodland edge

Part Used: Fruit, leaves, stem and bark

Medicinal Use: Used to treat mouth ulcers, sore throat, diarrheoa and thrush. Fruit high in vitamin C.
